Stayed Up Late (SCayos & Annie Elise Remix) [Sunset Version]

by Old Sea Brigade

/

about

Annie Elise: When I started the string arrangement for the sunset version, I wanted it to feel more like a campfire at night on the beach - a little eerie, unexpected, dark and mysterious. Every time SCayos and I work together I feel like the song embodies the feeling of dusk rather than daylight, which is why the title "sunset version" fits perfectly. I think I even turned off the lights in my space when I was recording strings!

SCayos: Annie and I were able to bring new life to the song by interpreting it with our own style and sound. I started off by slowing down the track and removing most of the instruments. I enjoy programming drums, so thats what I started with. I replaced the acoustic sounding drums with more muffled and lofi sounding drum patterns. We also added synths and glitchy instruments to make it more electronic leaning. Annie topped it off with vocal harmonies and strings to add to the dynamics of the song.

lyrics

I remember when you laid it straight
In the remnants of the falling sky
Standing in a new waterway
You held my hand as you started to cry

I remember when you stayed up late
Now you fall asleep a quarter to nine
I remember when our dreams took shape
And I was standing right by your side

Am I letting you down
Or is there something you found

Not everything that bends will break
Test the strength through a hurricane
No blackbelt but I’ll put up a fight
Not everything we had will die

I remember when we stayed up late
Now you fall asleep a quarter to nine
I remember when our dreams took shape
And I was standing right by your side
